Webinar: Mentoring 101

Mentoring 101 is designed to clarify the role and responsibilities of a mentor, address expectations and concerns, enhance communication skills, and increase the awareness of diversity and its impact on the mentor relationship. This training is appropriate for both new mentors, and current mentors who would like a refresher.

Webinar: Tips and Tools for Training Mentors

Join Lisa Bottomley, Senior Specialist at the Michigan State University Extension Children and Youth Institute, as she examines best practices and provides an overview of training activities from the Ready to Go: Mentor Training Toolkit curriculum from Michigan State University. Participants will receive a free copy of each training activity that is reviewed.

Webinar: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their Impact on the Mentoring Relationship

Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Join the Baltimore Child Abuse Center as they provide an overview of research which uncovered 10 common adverse experiences proven to have detrimental outcomes. Mentors will learn about ACEs, explore their long-term effect on youth, and identify strategies to help youth build resilience against negative consequences.

Webinar: Understanding Youth and Adolescent Development to Foster Positive Mentoring Relationship

Understanding Youth in Their Developmental Journey. Join Karen Francis, a Children’s Mental Health Consultant, as she provides an overview of youth and adolescent development. Mentors will learn how youth and adolescents change as they age, and gain tips and tools for how to foster positive and effective mentoring relationships.

Webinar: Understanding and Promoting Resilience for Mentors

Webinar: Roundtable - Providing Effective Mentoring Services for LGBTQ Youth

Join Karen Francis, Principle Researcher at American Institutes of Research, to explore strategies for providing culturally and linguistically competent services for youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning. These strategies include how to create a welcoming environment, protect youth, enhance staff and supports, improve practice and service delivery, and engage communities. 
MMRC's roundtables are open to everyone, but are geared towards mentor program providers and associates.

Webinar: Introduction to Gang Prevention

Join Steven Jeter, gang prevention trainer and founder of D.E.S.I.R.E.S. Youth Program, for an overview in understanding the gang culture. As a former gang member himself, Steven has in-depth knowledge and a unique point-of-view on the topic. He will discuss who may be at risk for joining a gang, what signs to look for, and how you can talk to your mentee about gangs.
