The Y provides mentor trainings through the Maryland Mentoring Resource Center (MMRC). MMRC is open to all mentors in any mentoring program in Maryland and has trained thousands of mentors throughout the region.

Mentor training programs are regularly scheduled to provide mentors with resources and guidance to further develop their mentor/mentee relationship and create longer-lasting and fulfilling experiences.

Strategies to Support Youth Exposed to Community Violence

CDC reports show that mass shootings and violence has been steadily increasing in America for the last 50 years. While larger states like California and Texas face higher risk, the effects of violence can be felt by youth across the country. In fact, data shows that mass violence or shootings are most likely to occur in schools, work, or places of worship. Coincidentally, these are all places our youth and mentors frequent. The increases in violence and media can take a toll on the mental health of youth. This training will focus on evidence-based signs and strategies to help youth as they cope with violence and its effects on their mental health.
