Exceptional Early Learning and Family Support

The Y in Central Maryland is a grantee for Head Start preschool in Baltimore City. In addition to providing high-quality, early learning and development for children ages 3-5, ensuring they are prepared to enter school ready to learn and succeed, we are the only Head Start preschool program in Baltimore City that includes a Y Family Membership. Our program is available at no cost to eligible families and is accredited and licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education. All children are welcome, including those with disabilities, in foster care, or experiencing homelessness.

Family Well-being

A strong, thriving family unit is critical to the healthy development of children. We work with local communities to provide resources for health and wellness, family well-being, parental support and education, and other tools to help achieve family success, including:

  • Medical, dental, hearing, vision, and behavioral screenings for children
  • Serve breakfast, lunch and snacks that are healthy and nutritious
  • Family services supporting education, nutrition, and mental health
  • Parenting workshops and professional development
  • Connect families to resources to help achieve their goals, including housing, employment, education, and economic mobility
  • Parent leadership opportunities on Advisory Committees, Policy Council, and more

A Y family membership is automatically included with enrollment so families can stay active, build strength, enjoy healthy family fun, and connect with others at the Y! The membership continues annually at no cost, even during school holidays and summer months, provided families re-enroll in Y Head Start/Early Head Start each year.
