Monday Mission Update - 2021.09.13

“The Y before & after school program at my son’s school has been wonderful for our family. It accommodates our busy work schedule so we don’t need to worry about our son while he is there.”

“Everyone at the Y is very patient, friendly and understanding. The teachers show concern not just for our child, but for our entire family.”

For so many working parents in our community who are constantly juggling so many competing priorities, Y youth development programs are essential in helping them achieve a semblance of work-life balance.

And for hundreds of youth across central Maryland, these programs offer the best of both worlds: a safe, supportive environment where they can complete homework while the lessons are still fresh in their minds, and also a fun and enriching experience where they can unwind from the school day with friends, express themselves creatively through the arts, explore science through unique hands-on STEM activities, exercise and discover new talents and abilities.

Research has repeatedly shown that how children spend their time outside of the school day greatly impacts their success in school. As an organization dedicated to helping children (and adults) reach their full potential, all of our many K-12 youth development programs not only provide peace of mind for busy parents, but also serve as a highly essential part of the overall school day experience, keeping children and teens energized and providing essential motivational engagement with caring, supportive adults beyond their class schedule.

The Y’s hard-working and creative associates in our Before & After School, Community Schools, and our other out-of-school-time enrichment programs, many of whom just wrapped up summer camp, are excited to welcome students and families back for an long-awaited in-person school season of safe, enriching experiences at nearly 80 school locations across the region. On behalf of them and all of us at the Y, we wish everyone a happy, healthy and enriching start to the new school year!

All the best,

John
