Monday Mission Update - 2021.07.26

"Good morning,

I would just like to reach out as a parent of two campers at the Weinberg Y camp location. My five- and six-year-old have been attending this summer, and it has been a phenomenal experience. My children have enjoyed their experience and been happy to attend each day. The counselors have gone above and beyond expectations. They are so kind and caring, and have really worked hard to provide the children with both what they need and a fun time. All the counselors have done this, but I wanted to mention Carlo and Claudette in particular. Carlo is so kind and patient and really gets to know the kids. Claudette has been so wonderful with parent communication and making sure each child feels comfortable and welcome. She set up a private area for my son to do his virtual speech therapy and was so encouraging and helpful. I have worked with a variety of childcare settings to provide my child with speech therapy and I can say confidently that Claudette is one of the best and most caring people I've worked with. I truly appreciate all the hard work that has been done by the team at Weinberg and look forward to attending again next summer. Thank you.

Thank you Alyssa for entrusting your children to the Weinberg Y camp, and for acknowledging the extra hard work and commitment of that wonderful team working so hard this summer. Camp is always quite a challenging undertaking for all concerned, but this summer it’s especially so: the frequently soaring temperatures, the need for children and adults alike to relieve the anxiety associated with Covid, the incredible workforce shortages, and, in the case of the Weinberg Y, a major construction project to navigate around!

Thankfully, Y associates are extraordinary people who routinely put service to others ahead of all else. Such is clearly the case for Claudette Royal, Assistant Camp Director, and Carlo Operio, Camp Counselor & Rockwall Specialist at the Weinberg Y in Waverly’s camp program. As Ms. Lindsey has noticed, they put the Y’s values into action every day to ensure that all children have the best experience they possibly can.

Y Camp Counselors

Thank you Claudette and Carlo for your devotion to the well-being of the campers in your care. And thank you to all of the hundreds of the Y’s associates across the region working camp this summer. You are all helping to give a much-needed summer of fun, safety, and relief to thousands of children and families across central Maryland.

All the best,
John
