Monday Mission Update - 2021.04.19

Healthy Kids DayThe Y’s annual Healthy Kids Day disappeared from our calendar last year as COVID forced the shutdown of our Y family centers and families, kids and everyone grappled with a frightening, new virus raging across the globe.

So, it was particularly energizing to see the return of kids and families and Healthy Kids Day to Ys this past Saturday. Although COVID is still a challenging factor in our lives, hundreds of families and children showed up to enjoy healthy snacks, exercise, traverse scooter obstacle courses, climb rock walls, play games and learn about the myriad community resources available to help kids, families and communities stay safe and healthy.

A big thank you is owed to the many community partners who came out to support this annual event, including local health care providers, firefighters, health departments, libraries, and many more.  Special thanks also goes to the many Y associates who made all this happen in a fun and safe manner. Y associates are accustomed to wearing many hats but now are balancing even more than usual.

Given the stresses of the last year, with all families have had to manage because of COVID, the work of helping children and families have fun is serious business here at the Y!

All the best,
John
