Back to this concept of busy. Too busy to grocery shop, too busy to cook, too busy to sit at the family table and be present with our food and loved ones. We need to reevaluate the importance we’ve placed on “busy”, but that’s a bigger conversation on the fringe of what we’re covering here. In some ways, mindfulness is the antithesis of busy.
Be present with your food. Take your time. Experience the aroma, texture, and taste of your food. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by the TV, the laptop, the PHONE! Be aware of your body’s natural cues for hunger and satiety. Enjoy the experience and privilege of eating well.
If we are mindful with food we have a deeper connection to and appreciation for our food. We are likely to eat less food and feel more satisfied. Mindful eaters also express improved well-being and stronger relationships with their tablemates/family.
The first couple weeks of attempting this will be effortful and challenging. Stay the path. What is hard today will be tomorrow’s normal. You’ll be well on your way to mastering that “Eat Healthy”.
