Y Monthly Monday Mission Update

In Appreciation of Y Associates, and What they do Every Single Day

During the week of October 21st, we celebrated our inaugural Y Associate Appreciation Week. As I have stated on many occasions, every week could be Y Associate Appreciation Week because Y associates are the most essential element in carrying out our mission in the community; directly engaging with people and families across this region to build a healthy, connected and inclusive community.

As we announced a number of fun surprises and exciting initiatives two weeks ago, we asked our members across all of our programs to share with us how Y associates impact their lives. The response was remarkable, but not surprising. I have highlighted a few of the many comments below that we received. As you will see, they range from broad statements about the Y experience to compliments for specific Y associates who make meaningful differences in people’s lives.

As I read these comments and the many, many more we received, I feel immensely proud to be a colleague to these amazing folks.

Given the pressures of daily life that we all navigate, it is not always an easy job to show up to work every single day with the passion and energy required of the myriad roles found here at our Y.  From teaching a child to read or swim, to helping someone on the road to health and wellness, or taking a busload of teenagers on a trip to a college campus, the work Y associates do has a real and lasting impact on the fabric of life in central Maryland.

Please join me in thanking Y associates on every single day of the year; not just during Y Associate Appreciation Week.

All the best,
