Disconnect to Reconnect: The Y Takes Action
Our digital world has led to a growing epidemic of disconnection. Dramatic increases in loneliness, depression, and stress are becoming more and more prevalent. The Y in Central Maryland is uniquely positioned as a healthy antidote to the growing crisis of loneliness, a challenge increasingly linked to excessive screen time and digital dependence—particularly among children and teens.
The Y is reaffirming its commitment to creating space for real-world connections. By expanding and strengthening programs for youth and teens, the Y provides safe, welcoming spaces where young people can engage, play, learn, and grow—without relying on technology. From early childhood education to K-12 youth development programs, children and teens are afforded opportunities to connect in meaningful and memorable ways that reinforce the value of relationship-building.
