changemakers graphicBe the Change in Your Community

Thanks to support from Amazon, Ys across the country are offering high school students (grades 9-12) the
opportunity to propose a project that addresses a critical issue or need in their communities.

The issue or need you select is entirely up to you but should be directly connected to your local community.

Your project must have two student Project Leaders however there is no limit on the number of students who can participate in your project. The Project Leaders must register and submit their proposal by Sunday, March 20.

The Y will select one project for the state of Maryland. The two student leaders of the selected project will represent Maryland as they present their proposal at the Y Youth Governors Conference in Washington, D.C. from June 15-17 (transportation and lodging are provided at no cost!).

During the conference, three projects will be chosen to receive $5,000 in funding!

How to Lead a Project

To submit your project for consideration, all Project Leaders must complete the two steps online at the Changemakers website (click and scroll to bottom).

  • STEP 1: Project Leader Registration
Each Project Leader must submit a separate registration form. Your project can not be considered without an individual registration form by both Project Leaders.

  • STEP 2: Project Proposal
After completing Step1 individually, both Project Leaders should then work together to submit their project proposal.

You must submit your registration and proposal by no later than Sunday, March 20.

By Thursday, March 31, the Y will select one project/two Project Leaders to represent Maryland at the youth
conference in D.C., confirm travel arrangements, and complete the conference registration.
