Y ASSOCIATE OPPORTUNITIES

Y Associate Survey

associate survey

Yesterday, September 15, you received an invitation in your Y email box from "Gallup <support@mail.gallup.com" (SEE EXAMPLE) with a link to complete the Y Associate Engagement Survey. The purpose of this survey is to measure associate engagement: happiness, satisfaction, and how you feel about working for the Y. Regularly measuring your engagement is a key step in our journey to building a better workplace at the Y.

Your participation in the survey is critical. Your opinion needs to be heard to help us transform our workplace from the inside out. The survey takes no more than 10 minutes to complete and is 100% confidential.

Thank you. We appreciate and value your honest feedback.

Associate Appreciation Day

The Y will recognize Associate Appreciation Day again this year on Friday, October 21. This means that all Y offices, Y family centers, program sites, and programs will be closed for the day to give associates an extra day off to refresh and recharge! This is a paid day off for any associate regularly scheduled to work that day.

Instructions will be sent out in October on how to enter time/hours for the Associate Appreciation Day.

Please click below to review other planned closures/modified hours for 2022-2023.

30 Years of Service

Stacie Jones

The Hill Y would like to recognize Stacie Jones for 30 years of Y service! Stacie began her tenure at the Hill Y during the end of the summer in 1992 as the doors of the brand new Y in Westminster had just opened. Her years of Y dedication included work in membership, Stay & Play, preschool, and  volunteering. She is most noted for personal touches like delivering a misplaced walking cane to a senior member's house and knowing the names of almost every member since 1992.  Her longevity, commitment and passion for the Y's mission is commendable.

Please join us in congratulating and thanking Stacie on reaching such a tremendous milestone! Thank you Stacie!! ❤️

COMMUNITY COMMENTS

Y Community Comments

The good work you do doesn't go unnoticed. Enjoy reading these real comments from our Y community and soak in the praise!

Maddie, Y Camp Spencer
"Camp Spencer was so much fun for my 11 year old. She enjoyed the variety of activities and swimming every day. I liked the flexibility we had with drop off and pick up times. As a working parent, it was ideal and less stressful than a rigid time that falls in the middle of average work day schedules."

Coraline, Y Preschool at UMBC
“Y preschool has been a great experience for our daughter. She has learned so much at this school which has been so beneficial to her development. Thank you Y Preschool at UMBC!"

Deidre, The Hill Y in Westminster
"The associates are friendly and helpful. I like the variety of equipment and activities. Also, I like the strong links with the community like the appearance of several science students with different activities for the members to participate in and learn from. I like the Turkey Trot even though I'm far from being able to run. Every person feels valued at that event."

Danadia, Y School Partnerships - Next Generation Scholars Program
“I think this has been an excellent experience for my child and my family. I would recommend it to others."

OUR WORK TOGETHER

Dear Colleagues,

Just like that, the summer camp season ended and a new school year is off and running. At the Y, that transition is always a bit of a challenge operationally, but no more so than the transition that the busy families we serve have just experienced. Of course, many Y associates (like me) are parents of school-aged kids, so our personal and professional lives crash into each other this time of year. As parents, my wife and I are ecstatic that our twin girls are back at school, and I’m sure many of you share that sentiment!

Of course, I remain in awe of the superb work Y associates do year-round to help children and youth navigate those incredibly important pre-kindergarten and K-12 years. This has been especially true over the past two and half years of seemingly endless turbulence. I needn’t tell any of you that mental health professionals, educators and parents are particularly concerned about the social-emotional impact of that turbulence. While we can’t solve all the ills raised, we do have a large and important role to play in shoring up the confidence and sense of security all young people need.

Just this week I heard about a Y camp practice of telling every child at the end of the day affirming words like, “Thank you for participating today. You matter a lot and we are so proud of you. We can’t wait to see you tomorrow!” As small as that gesture may seem, when practiced daily it adds up to a sense of belonging and worth to a child that can stick with them like an invisible coating of confidence for life. At the other end of the spectrum, we know how traumatic the last week or so has been at Mervo High School, and the heroic work of our Community Schools and Weinberg Y associates who jumped in to be a steadying and comforting presence to that school community amidst unspeakable crisis.

I can hardly imagine more important or needed work and I applaud and thank each of you for it.

Y associates – there’s no one like them!

All the best,

John Hoey
