COMMUNITY COMMENTS

Y Community Comments

The good work you do doesn't go unnoticed. Enjoy reading these real comments from our Y community and soak in the praise!

Ronin, Y Camp Spencer
"Camp Spencer is like the camp you imagine for your kids. It’s tucked into the woods and the kids have structured fun all day. They come home dirty, smiling and exhausted. Success!"

Henry, The Sherman Early Childhood Center at Weinberg
“The Y Preschool teachers are warm, friendly, and welcoming. They treat my kids like their own. The preschool is a nurturing and enriching place where I feel confident sending my kids each day."

Brandy, The Y in Pasadena
"My almost 7 year old twin boys absolutely love the pool and splash pad, of course! However, every experience I have is my favorite. One of my twins has Autism, Tourette’s and Asperger’s. He talks constantly and can be trying at times. Everyone one of the associates and lifeguards have been so friendly and engaging with him. As a mom of a special needs child, I could never explain to anyone just how much that means to me. I hope they are able to hear about my experience!"

Lorna, Water Exercise at the Y Swim Center in Randallstown
“I love my arthritis class and the teacher Alisha who teaches ‘wet and sweat’ class on Tuesday. I asked for her schedule and was informed that was her only class. That's too bad. Even though I am exhausted after her class, I would attend all of her classes. I ❤️ the Y!"

OUR WORK TOGETHER

Dear Colleagues,

In many ways, most of us have psychologically moved into a “post-pandemic” phase, going about our daily lives with COVID not at or near the top of our minds. There certainly are many other things we’re all dealing with which seem way more pressing!

With that being said, new COVID strains continue to find their way past our collective immune systems. Unfortunately, according to public health experts we’re actually still in the midst of the pandemic, with the latest variants being even more contagious than the last. That’s the bad news. The good news is that they are causing few hospitalizations and deaths due to the incredibly effective vaccinations and boosters and the fact that variants tend to become less harmful over time. As such, most of us can and should go about living our lives without remaining obsessed with COVID.

Yet, we still need to be smart. We don’t know the long term implications of having COVID once or multiple times. If you are healthy and have no underlying conditions, every exposure creates an increased level of risk to those in our lives who may have weakened immune systems or other medical conditions which make them more susceptible to serious illness, hospitalization and even death. As such, this is no time to let our guards down, as appealing as that is. Because of this and because I care about the health and well-being of every Y associate and your families, I urge each of you, if you haven’t already, to get a COVID booster. They are free and readily available at most pharmacies. Like any vaccine, there may be mild side effects but if you get them, they pale by comparison to the effects of the virus itself.

While we aren’t requiring Y associates to get boosters at this time, we are strongly recommending them for your own safety and for the health and safety of your colleagues, family and friends.

Thank you for your consideration and for all the wonderful work you do to help keep those we serve healthy, safe, engaged and connected in community.

All the best,

John Hoey
