Y ASSOCIATE OPPORTUNITIES
Y Associate Appreciation Week
Yesterday, John Hoey announced that October 21st - 25th is Y Associate Appreciation Week! If you missed that announcement, be sure to scroll down and read, A Note from John Hoey.
Next week, keep an eye on your inbox at approximately 9 AM and 1 PM for new associate news, team spotlights and heartfelt gratitude for every Y associate. Rest assured, these are announcements you don't want to miss!
Celebrate Y Fresh Mart Volunteers
September was Hunger Action Month and Y Fresh Mart took the opportunity to celebrate our most active volunteers.
Each week, one volunteer from each center was highlighted on our social media pages. Many of these folks are Y members who give back to the Y through their service. Take a moment to celebrate their contributions!
Associates are welcome to volunteer in the pantry by going to ymaryland.volunteermatters.org and searching "fresh mart" or by reaching out to Margo at margaretnicolson@ymaryland.org. Many associates already generously share their time with Y Fresh Mart: Rebecca Anzueto Estrada, Katie Callaway, Shannon Kowal, Stacey Thomas, Fern Easley, and many more!
THANK YOU for helping us end hunger in Central Maryland!
Associate Referral Program
We are growing our Y associate community and need your help. If you know someone who may be a qualified candidate as an educator, lifeguard or other referral program position, please encourage them to apply. If the person you referred is hired, you can potentially earn up to a $500 referral bonus!

COMMUNITY COMMENTS

The good work you do doesn't go unnoticed. Enjoy reading these real comments from our Y community and soak in the praise!
Elise's Parent, Y Head Start in Baltimore City, Fayette Site
"The associates and teachers are amazing and they really meet my daughter where she is."
Moabi, The Orokawa Y in Towson
"I feel like I belong to an exclusive Diamond Double Platinum Membership. The Y is an awesome place to stop by, even just to take in the luxurious atmosphere and the diversity. Thank you!"
Laylah's Mom, Y Before & After School Enrichment at Monarch Global Academy
"So supportive! We love you guys. It’s hard to be working full time and a single mom. It is a relief to know that my child is happy and safe everyday after school. I don’t know what we’d do without you. ❤️"
Arie's Mom, Betty Sterner Y Preschool in Catonsville
"Since being at the Y Preschool in Catonsville, I can tell a difference in my daughters day-to-day demeanor. I’m glad I chose this center because Mr. Bob and Ms. Vonda are amazing. They have been very helpful with any questions or concern I have.
Her teachers, Mrs. Ester and Mrs. Tina, are the right two teachers for her class. They are experienced and highly talked about and that is a big deal for me. Arie even has Mrs. Shelly - and I feel so bad because I don’t know the other sweet young lady's name - but they take the time to fix her hair and give her some extra loving for me.
All of the Room 1 teachers: I want you to know I appreciate you. Me and Arie are so glad we have you. Even the teachers that aren’t in the room with her, thank you for loving on her as well.
Being a single mom, it’s hard juggling everything on my own and I’m not the best at coming up with hairstyles so you all are a blessing to me. I have seen a change in Arie’s mood when getting up in the morning for school and her awareness of our morning routine. Thanks again for everything you all do for her."

WHY RISK IT?

The Y's Risk Management Team has created a monthly newsletter to highlight key risk reduction practices, reviews and reminders. This serves as an excellent quick reference for high priority risk awareness in our Y programs, centers and sites.
OUR WORK TOGETHER
Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to announce that the Y in Central Maryland will be celebrating Y Associate Appreciation Week from October 21st through October 25th.
While appreciating the incredible work and commitment of Y associates is something worth doing every single day, Y Associate Appreciation Week is an opportunity for all of us in the Y community to be particularly explicit about that, including those of us who work here and the members of the community we serve, and to focus our energy on appreciating you.
We have a lot of great things planned for Y Associate Appreciation Week, including some exciting announcements and, of course, appreciation from every direction imaginable.
I am extremely proud and humbled to work alongside you and each and every Y associate in this organization. As I often say, the Y may have lots of buildings and programs, but the most essential thing that sets us apart is the quality of the relationships we build with the community and each other. And so, I’m excited to honor you and your colleagues who are building those relationships and building a healthier, more connected and inclusive community every single day.
All the best,

John Hoey
President & CEO
The Y in Central Maryland
