Y ASSOCIATE SHOUT OUTS

We have more great Y Associate Shout Outs today. Today, and going forward, we’re organizing them around our four core operating principles: cleanliness, engagement, inclusion and safety. Of course, many of the Shout Outs could fit under multiple operating principles, and that’s a good thing! These are stories about pitching in, reaching out, showing initiative, being a great colleague, and going the extra mile: all of which are hallmarks of Y associates and our organizational culture.
Click the blue "Shout Out" icon above to read about Justin Garcia, Shannon Kowal, Keavon Jennings, Laketa Lance, Traci Petty, Connie Scyhan-Cuasto, Angela Smith, Dondra Walker, Corey Alston, and Donald Eaddy.
If you have a colleague you'd like to "Shout Out", simply click below to fill out the nomination form.
COMMUNITY COMMENTS

The good work you do doesn't go unnoticed. Enjoy reading these real comments from our Y community and soak in the praise!
Royal's Parent, Y Head Start in Anne Arundel County, Meade Village Site
"Our experience has been phenomenal. My child is learning and improving everyday. She loves her teacher."
Sandra, The Dancel Y in Ellicott City
"Where do I begin? The variety of classes, pickleball availability, the friendly associates, the clean facility, etc. If I need to put my membership on hold due to an illness, surgery or injury, it's never a problem. Also, the socialization. I have so many friends there that I never feel like the only one there."
Evelyn's Parent, Y Before & After School Enrichment at Meadowvale Elementary
"Tori is amazing. She has taken great care of our daughter! We have been in the Meadowvale Y since 2019 and couldn’t be happier!"
Wyatt's Parent, Y Chipmunks Preschool
"Teachers are very nice. The facility is nice and very clean. My son has thrived and is excited to go to school every day. I like the Tadpoles app where I can easily communicate with my son's teacher."

WHY RISK IT?

The Y's Risk Management Team has created a monthly newsletter to highlight key risk reduction practices, reviews and reminders. This serves as an excellent quick reference for high priority risk awareness in our Y programs, centers and sites.
OUR WORK TOGETHER
Dear Colleagues,
Across all of our programs and sites, including Head Start and Early Head Start, Preschool, Before & After School Enrichment, Camp, Mentoring, Community Schools, and our Y family centers, we will serve more than 80,000 children and teens this year.
That’s 80,000+ young lives depending on us to be there for them and keep them safe. Tens of thousands of families trusting us to keep their children safe.
This is both an honor and a profound responsibility for every single one of us. And that is why one of our four core Operating Principles is Safety. It’s a solemn duty that we are all bound to uphold.
It is with this in mind that I am immensely proud to announce that the Y in Central Maryland has recently been awarded Praesidium Accreditation® from the national leader in child abuse risk management and prevention. Praesidium Accreditation® is a prestigious, hard to achieve honor that publicly recognizes our unwavering commitment to the highest industry standards in child safety and abuse prevention. Praesidium Accreditation® gives the Y in Central Maryland access to best practices, resources and consultation with leading experts, and reinforces internally and externally our clear, non-negotiable risk prevention standards, as well as swift reporting and management procedures.
We are deeply proud of the hard work you have done, and continue to do, to help keep children safe at the Y. It’s important to know that all Y in Central Maryland associates and volunteers are considered mandated reporters. This means that, as a Y associate, if you see or even suspect any incidence of child abuse or neglect, you are required by law to report it to Child Protective Services. If you ever have a question about this, ask your supervisor or email riskmanagement@ymaryland.org.
I very much appreciate the work each and every Y associate does every day to help keep children safe. The Praesidium Accreditation® was earned by us precisely because of you and your unwavering commitment to those we serve.
All the best,

John Hoey
President & CEO
The Y in Central Maryland
