In this quarterly edition of US! DEI, we are reflecting on the recognition of the contributions of Black Americans and Women as commemorated during the months of February and March.
Black history and women’s history is American history. The question that many might wonder is why we observe these groups (and others in an isolated fashion)? To set aside months for recognition is to be exclusive, right?
However, perhaps it is the calling out of these groups that will help us all call one another in. Calling one another in on creating space, where space doesn’t exist. Calling one another in on treating all voices with respect, even when we disagree. Perhaps it’s better for us to see the call out as a call in to creating the society that we aspire to belong to. Perhaps.

INVESTING IN OUR EMERGING LEADERS
Leadership is a choice and is not related to age, title, or any other arbitrary quality. Leadership happens when people choose to behave in ways that make them effective in guiding others.
We encourage our leaders to observe those associates who stand out as problem-solvers, who present different perspectives and ideas, and who aren’t afraid to take risks. Meeting regularly one-on-one will help you understand their motivations and goals.
At the same time, we encourage those associates who aspire to lead to join the Emerging Leaders ARG. There you will have the opportunity to develop and prepare for leadership and connect with Y professionals in a strategic and meaningful way.
