The Y in Central Maryland is making a significant impact in Anne Arundel County. With two Y Family Centers in Pasadena and Arnold, school-age enrichment programs in numerous schools, camp locations, and Head Start sites, the Y's presence is both strong and vibrant. However, without a Y Family Center that serves the central part of the county, the Y is unable to provide its full range of programs and services to many county families.
Thanks to a substantial lead naming gift from Jim and Janet Clauson, the Y is excited to move forward with raising roughly $46 million for a multi-phased project to bring the new Clauson Y in Millersville to fruition. To date, this campaign has secured:
Enhance the welfare and quality of life for the full range of residents from children and teens to families and an active older adults.
Support and bring together community members that differ in age, race, ethnicity, income, and education.
There are few organizations providing young people with a place in which to spend time with each other and with caring adults; this will be a place that is positive, nurturing, and safe.
Students can transition from early childhood education and after-school tutoring/homework support to sports, mentoring, and enrichment programs.
As an employer of those who are new to the job market, the Y provides young people and others with a strong foundation for future success and positive community engagement.
The Y has the brand reputation, experience, and capacity to run a multi-generational hub of healthy activity while collaborating with other organizations that enrich the community.
The Y is built around a membership model that welcomes everyone into our community. Our mission is rooted in being for all, which drives our an intentional focus on ensuring full community access. The Y charges relatively moderate membership fees and provides Open Doors Financial Assistance for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.
At the Clauson Y, the following programs and experiences are a sampling of what would be included in its membership offering:
Full access to all of the Clauson Y facility amenities, as well as the other 10 Y Family Centers in Central Maryland.
