A Meaningful Career is a Beautiful Thing

At the Y, we offer careers that are more than just “work”. Y associates move with purpose; they have meaningful careers doing what they love, inspiring others and making a positive impact on the community.

When you join the Y in Central Maryland team, you join a very special family of professionals who have made the intentional decision to be a part of a cause-driven, charitable organization where they can build their career and their community.

Meet a Few Y Associates

Keyona McNeil

Keyona McNeil, Site Director, College Gardens After School Program

Says Keyona, “Each day my job title changes. Sometimes I am a teacher, friend, big sister, mother and a mentor. It is not easy but it is very rewarding.” To Keyona, the Y means purpose; she enjoys working with youth in a center that they call home. To the community, Keyona thinks the Y means hope – operating in communities with a significant number of latchkey kids and single-parent households, the Y provides a safe and fun place for kids to go after school instead of being home alone. They get homework help, play with friends and have dinner. Parents are supported because they do not have to do everything alone – they can rely on a center full of people eager and ready to help their child(ren) grow. Thank you, Keyona! Your work matters and is valued by all of us!

Katie Essel

Katie Essel, FitQuest Coordinator and Personal Trainer, The Y in Perry Hall

Katie joined the Y in 2016 after graduating college. With limited work experience, Katie says the Y has helped her grow as a leader through interactions with people of all backgrounds. Katie believes in the Y’s mission and the impact the Y has on members of the community. To Katie, the best part of her job is helping people discover the best programs for their lifestyles at the Y, whether it’s encouraging members to take a BODYPUMP class, or recommending Fit ‘N Fun for young children. Katie also believes that the Y creates connections within the community, saying, “many members over the years have told me that they signed up because they have heard about the great things we do at the Y and they want to be a part of this community!” Thank you, Katie! Your work matters and is valued by all of us!
