Y Monthly Monday Mission Update

Let’s Help our Kids Have a Healthy, Happy  Summer

As the calendar turns to June, summer is firmly on the minds of Y associates across the region as they ready our camps for an influx of eager youngsters, while we work hard to raise the funds needed to assure summer is a time of safety and fun for all.

With gratitude to the kindhearted 1,377 donors who’ve already contributed $184,856, our work is far from done. Nearly 200 children are still on the waitlist for Y Open Doors financial aid to attend Y summer camp, and we depend on the continued generosity of our community to help turn their summers into times of active, healthy, engaging days free from screens and isolation.

Y donor May Chung has dedicated the past five years to doing just that. She tells us why.

“Growing up, my family couldn’t afford to send me to camp, leaving me to spend my summers at home feeling bored and disappointed. Then one week, I got the opportunity to go to Y camp for the first time ever. It was life-changing.

I vividly remember learning to rock climb, tasting s’mores for the first time (ummm, YES!), and enjoying yummy meals that went beyond what my family could provide. This experience sparked a lifelong commitment to ensure every child has the same opportunity as I had.

As an educator, I believe it’s crucial for children to engage in play, enjoy the great outdoors, unplug from technology, and make new friends. Camp fosters all this and more. I can tell you from experience, that the sense of confidence and feelings of belonging that emanate from camp stick with you for life.”

If you’re interested in making a tangible difference this summer, please visit this page to see the impact you can create.

So, many thanks to all who have already actively demonstrated that healthy and happy children and youth is everyone’s priority. Join us in sending some more kids to camp!

All the best,
