On September 10, 2008, a fire tragically destroyed the Y's playground at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Family Center at Stadium Place, 33rd Street in Baltimore City. The community built playground was a loved play area for youth and families in the communities surrounding the former stadium.
At this time, we don’t have a full understanding of the amount of financial resources needed to re-erect this community gem. We do know, however, that the outpouring of financial and volunteer support that resulted in its original construction will be needed to turn this tragedy into an opportunity for our community.
Financial contributions made to the Y of Central Maryland in response to this incident will be fully dedicated to funding the rebuilding effort of the playground and then programs for community youth. Donated funds, above what is required for the playground (the amount is not known at this time), will be directed toward further development of open community play space at the Stadium Place campus for the enjoyment of Baltimore City’s children.
