A community resource since 1853, the Y of Central Maryland is one of the largest human service providers in Maryland and is dedicated to developing the full potential of every individual through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.� Family health & wellness programs, camps, youth and adult sports and child care are delivered through its seven health and wellness centers, and more than 100 program locations throughout Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard Counties.� The Y is the largest private provider of child care in Maryland as well as the largest provider of Head Start.

Y of Central Maryland, Baltimore County Head Start program is a non-profit curriculum based program that services the needs of low income children and their families in the Baltimore County Community.

DESCRIPTION

In this position you will assist the Bus Driver in overseeing the health, welfare, safety of all children riding the Head Start vehicles at our Merritt Park and Back River site locations. Understanding the driver is in a temporary supervisory position over the bus aide while transporting passengers. You will be responsible for the entire bus at the end of each run to assure that all children have exited the vehicle; Assists children in entering, exiting and ensures harnesses are secured and remain fastened at all times while the vehicle is in motion; Assures each child is released to the designated adult at each stop; Ensures that the deliver activities & messages to the receiving adult;Uses quite voice when talking with the children; Answers routine questions & discusses routines issues with the parents in a positive manner; Assists the driver in keeping the vehicle clean & safe; Assists the driver in conducting vehicle emergency evacuations.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday - 5 Hours/Day = 20/hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS

HIgh School Diploma or GED; Must be 21 years of age;
One or three months related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education & experience;Ability to read and interpret documents;Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form;Must be able to lift and move supplies weighing 35 pounds and/or child who may weigh up to 65 pounds; Bi-Lingual in both Spanish & English will be an asset.
