A community resource since 1853, the Y of Central Maryland is one of the largest
human service providers in Maryland and is dedicated to developing the full potential of
every individual through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Family
health & wellness programs, camps, youth and adult sports and child care are delivered
through its seven health and wellness centers, and more than 100 program locations
throughout Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford
County and Howard County. Anyone who seeks participation in a Y program is afforded a Y
experience, regardless of ability to pay. A full 33% of the Y of Central Maryland’s budget
goes to providing programs and services to people who otherwise can not afford to pay. This
was accomplished in 2006 through reinvestment of more than $11 million into scholarships and
programs. The Y is the largest private provider of child care in Maryland as well as the
largest provider of Head Start. The Y of Central Maryland also mentors homeless teens at
Camp Horizon, strengthens youth from underserved neighborhoods through Urban Services
programs, tutors young people in Project Boost, and teaches teens the art of debate and
parliamentary procedure through its Youth and Government program, among many other services
that help strengthen kids, families and communities in Central Maryland.
