A. Eugene Oaksmith 

Vice President of Strategic Development 

Gene Oaksmith, a life-long Maryland resident, became the Y’s VP of Strategic Development in September 2008.  Gene actually started his career working for the Y in Anne Arundel County.  He then moved on to run the Howard County Department of Recreation.  He ultimately moved into the business world, including 23 years with Citigroup, achieving success in business development, sales and community affairs roles.   

Gene’s extensive volunteer and board work includes service with MADD, GBC, Towson University, Baltimore County Schools, March of Dimes, United Way, and the Y’s Community Advisory Board in Harford County. 

As the Y’s VP of Strategic Development, Gene identifies opportunities that allow the Y of Central Maryland to grow, serve significantly more people, and become more financially viable.
