Gene Oaksmith, a life-long Maryland resident, became the Y’s VP of Strategic Development in September 2008 but Gene actually started his career working for the Y in Anne Arundel County. He went on to start the Howard County Department of Recreation. Gene ultimately moved into the business world, including 25 years with Citigroup, achieving success in business development, sales and community affairs roles.
Gene's extensive volunteer and board work includes service with MADD, GBC, Towson University, Baltimore County Schools, March of Dimes, United Way, and the Y's Community Advisory Board in Harford County.
As the Y's VP of Strategic Development, Gene identifies opportunities that allow the Y of Central Maryland to grow and serve significantly more people.
