"I want to exercise more and get healthier, but I just can’t find the time!"

If this statement accurately describes your reality, you're not alone. Improving one’s health and well-being is somewhere on everyone’s to-do list. Unfortunately for many of us, our day-to-day tasks and immediate needs often get in the way of accomplishing this goal. Regardless of the many valid reasons (and some creative excuses), we believe you can strike a healthy balance between the demands of life and your desire to be more active and healthy. Where to start? How about rethinking health & well-being.

Our Approach

Most people tend to think of health & well-being as only “the physical”. At the Y, we believe “the physical” is only part of a bigger picture. Even though we’re the leading provider of health & well-being programs in Central Maryland and offer a variety of fun, energizing classes for all bodies, levels and abilities, we understand that health & well-being is as much mental and spiritual as it is physical. That’s why in addition to the “feel the burn” classes, we offer classes that lift your spirit, sharpen your mind and help you achieve an overall spirit-mind-body wellness. We also provide opportunities for social interaction with friends and neighbors and quality time for busy families.

Be Part of a Community

When you join the Y, you’re joining a special community of people who not only care about their health & well-being, but about the well-being of others too. You can lift weights or take yoga anywhere, but at the Y, you also have an opportunity to make a difference in your community.

Whether through volunteer work, contributions to our Safe Place for Kids campaign, mentoring or simply advocating for the Y, you send a message to the children and families in your own backyard that you care about their welfare and you support the Y as a positive community resource.

Our Y centers also act as a “third place”; a place, in addition to home and work, where you feel comfortable and safe. The camaraderie that’s found in Y centers is refreshing. People are able to be themselves and enjoy the company of friends, family and neighbors. This ability to socialize and connect with people gives a lift to your spirit just as much as any yoga class! Don’t just join. Connect.

Family Fun

One of the most important factors in improving your overall health & well-being is making sure you have a balanced work-life ratio. As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." It also makes him unhealthy!

We provide a variety of opportunities for families to spend quality time together and reconnect with one another. Here are just a few…

Family Fun Night
Family Center Y’s take turns hosting a free night of play each month. Family Fun Nights are open to the public and often include family games, projects, fun themes, family swim and more! Check the events calendar for our next Family Fun Night!

Healthy Kids Day
Every April, Y’s across the nation host Y Healthy Kids Day, where families have fun participating in activities like family fitness, making healthy treats, face painting, moon bounces and more!

Mommy (or Daddy) and Me Classes
Many Y classes for infants and toddlers follow our Mommy and Me format which gives parents a chance to strengthen bonds with their little one during those critical early years. Classes like Busy Bees, Tots Day Out and Skips are just a few that focus on parent/child interaction.

Happy Healthy Halloween
Happy Healthy Halloween gives families a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. Similar in nature to Healthy Kids Day, families participate in fun games, costume contests, face painting, and more.

Y Turkey Trots
Start a new family tradition and participate in a Y Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on Thanksgiving morning! Proceeds go to the Y’s Safe Place for Kids campaign to provide Y experiences to those who otherwise could not afford it.

Kids/Parents Night Out
As much as kids and parents need to be together, they also need time apart. We offer Kids/Parents Night Out programs where mom and dad can enjoy an evening to themselves while we engage kids in fun activities at the Y. (It also works the other way around; kids get a break from mom and dad!)
