Chief Operating Officer
As Chief Operating Officer for the Y in Central Maryland, Bob leads the day-to-day operations of membership/program services and partners with key volunteer and staff leadership to ensure mission advancement through positive community impact.
Prior to joining the Central Maryland Y team, Bob spent 13 years as a Senior Vice President with the Y of South Hampton Roads where he led membership operations through significant growth, providing mission fulfillment to over 250,000 people annually through a network of 17 family centers and over 50 program sites. In addition to guiding membership development, Bob’s responsibilities included program leadership, impact strategies, business planning, and product delivery initiatives.
Beginning his Y career in 1978 as a Y summer camp horseback-riding instructor in Richmond, Virginia, Bob quickly progressed to leader roles in youth sports, child care, aquatics, fitness, and member services. After receiving a Business Administration & Real Estate Management degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, he continued with the Y in multiple program, camping, and aquatic management positons.
In 1994 Bob established the Midlothian Family Y, a branch of the Y of Greater Richmond (VA). In six years the branch grew from a few committed volunteers and a vision to a large membership center serving over 10,000 people annually. In 2000, Bob was recruited by the Central Florida Y where he led a five branch district, Association Aquatics, and the establishment of a $1M grant funded infant swim program.
Bob is nationally recognized for membership development with expertise in creating and implementing acquisition, retention, and engagement strategies and has led multiple Y key leader and state alliance workshops. He currently serves on the YUSA National Membership Advisory Taskforce and other Y leadership committees.
Bob holds the Y Organizational Leader designation along with multiple Y leadership and management certifications. He is also active in several industry trade organizations.
